The Central Highlands Barrel Race Association was formed in 2005. Since then it has gone on to be one of the fastest growing Associations in the sport of Barrel Racing.  The CHBHA was established to strengthen and unify the growth and demand in 3 Divisional Barrel Races in this region.

One of the objectives of the CHBHA was stage an annual Futurity event for barrel horses that are 6 years old or under.
This event is run in July each year and has proved to be very successful.
For newcomers to barrel racing, the 3 D events being held give people an opportunity to start out in the sport or to start young horses without having to pay a hefty rodeo entry fee.  The events are not targeted specifically to rodeo competitors, but are open to anyone, male or female, young or old, and mounted on any type of horse.  The CHBHA also caters for children with three separate youth age group barrel races.

News Story

The Central Highlands Barrel Horse Associations first Barrel Race for the year was a roaring success with over 43 participants in the 3D Barrel Race including a number of new comers experiencing their first taste of barrel race excitement.
Kicking off another fabulous year the “Come and Try” day was held at Destiny Downs, Emerald on the 19th of Feb. And what a day it was? The rain did not show its face that day and started in fine style with a sausage sizzle and a meet and greet. The riders and horses then got into action with exhibition runs to warm up.
A highlight for many was simply experiencing their first barrel run or for the old hands showing off their prowess to the rest of the competition to reinforce the standard for the coming year ahead. The CHBHA is a local club and thrives on the participation of its members; we therefore encourage people from all ages and disciplines, male or female to come and get involved. There is a strong family atmosphere and children are more than welcome.

We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events, in 2011.
